Race Overview

The 9th Annual Ocean State Rhode Races in Narragansett, RI will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2024. Race weekend features a Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5k Race.

The Marathon will start at 7:30 am, the Half Marathon will start at 8:00 AM, and the 5k at 8:15 am, all on Sunday.

This boutique Rhode Island marathon will showcase what is great about the Ocean State. Not only does the course feature classic Rhode Island beauty, our post-race festival will include an authentic RI experience at iconic Narragansett Town Beach.  For runners and by runners, the event offers direct access to the race directors who promise timely communication and personal touches throughout your race experience.

The marathon course is USATF certified and is an Abbott World Marathon Major and Boston Marathon Qualifier.

The Ocean State Rhode Races Half is the final stop of the Rhode Race Series, a five-stop series of Rhode Island Half Marathons.

The race starts on Boston Neck Rd. and finishes in the North Pavilion parking lot.  ALL parking will be located at the South and West parking lots or in labeled spots located throughout the downtown Narragansett area.  The parking lots will fill up so we recommend arriving early.  Once they are filled, there is plentiful on-street parking available. 

If you arrive after 6:30am, we recommend utilizing the on-street parking near The Towers before you arrive at the Beach as the beach lots will be filled and Boston Neck Rd will be closed.  

Directions from Newport:

Narragansett is just about 20 minutes from Newport.

Travel on RI-138 West. Take exit onto RI-1A towards Narragansett, Wickford.

Full Marathon

The course is a stunning mix of beautiful farms, coastal homes, old rock walls and tree-lined, back roads.  The race runs past ocean views, river walks, kayak stands and fishing holes.   Race day starts at famous Narragansett Town Beach, winding through beautiful US 1A before descending into gorgeous Bonnet Shores.  The race rejoins US 1A, following working farms and picturesque waterways before heading back to the finish at the Town Beach.  The race is truly quintessential Rhode Island.  

The Ocean State Rhode Race is the final stop in the Rhode Master Series – 3-5 of the most scenic half marathons in Rhode Island.

The Marathon course will be secured for six hours and the Half Marathon course will be secured for three and a half hours. Walkers are welcome for both races but after the time limits the course will be open to traffic and aid stations will be closed.  We offer an early start option for those needing longer than 6 hours.

Pace groups for the full marathon will be provided by Rhode Island Road Runners. They will have pacers running at marathon paces of: 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:30 and 5:00.  The Half Marathon will host pacers of 1:40, 1:50, 2 hrs, 2:15, 2:30, and 2:45.

Aid Stations will be available throughout the course. Please review the course maps to see the exact location of all medical and water stops. Some aid stations will have Clif energy gels, Nuun electrolyte drink and bananas.  Port-a-potties will be at all aid stations.

Race Amenities

As a thank you for joining us for this event, you will be receiving high quality photos. After the weekend, be sure to keep an eye on your e-mail for a link to view your photos on both desktop and mobile devices. You will be able to download, e-mail and upload these awesome pictures to Facebook with one-click- at no cost-and share them with all of your fans and friends.

Gender and Race Specific tech t-shirts will be included in your race registration.  Early registration guarantees your selected size.  Registration after August 1, only available shirt sizes will be listed. Shirts may be exchanged for size at the conclusion of the race in the Awards Tent.

Race specific finisher medals will be handed out at the finish line to participants of the Marathon and Half Marathon.
